The new year began at the courthouse with swearing in ceremonies for officials elected in November.
Magistrate David Morain administered the oath of office to (from left) incoming county treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen, returning recorder Marcia Tasler, and returning county supervisors Dawn Rudolph and Tom Contner.
After being sworn in, the supervisors elected John Muir as chair and Rudolph and chair pro tem. The two have both served several years in those positions.
The board approved the standard organizational resolution. Meeting times are unchanged: Mondays at 8:30 am, year-round, with the regular meetings on Tuesday after a Monday holiday. Regular meetings will also be held Thursdays at 8:30 am during the budgeting process, general until mid- or late March.
The county will observe holidays as follows: President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 18; Memorial Day, Monday, May 27; Independence Day, Thursday, July 4; Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2; Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11; Thanksgiving, Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28-29; Christmas, Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 24-25; and New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.

Judge William Ostlund later administered the oath to new county attorney Thomas Laehn with Laehn’s wife and infant daughter looking on. Ostlund first thanked retiring county attorney Nic Martino for his 42 years of service in the position.
